Levine is an internationally recognized phycologist, educator, and innovator in the field of algal biotechnology. He currently serves as the CEO of The Algae Foundation and is Professor Emeritus at the University of Southern Maine. With over four decades of experience, Dr. Levine has led ground-breaking research and workforce development initiatives in seaweed cultivation, algal bioeconomy, and integrated aquaculture systems. A two-time Fulbright Fellow and former trustee professor, he has received over $10 million in competitive grants and has authored numerous scientific papers, books, and educational programs. Dr. Levine played a pivotal role in founding the Algae Technology Educational Consortium (ATEC), which fosters K–16 STEM education and bioeconomy training. His contributions have shaped the global algae industry through academic leadership, innovative research, and strategic collaborations with governments, industry, and NGOs. He is also a frequent plenary speaker and serves on multiple editorial and advisory boards in the field.
